When I went back to visit Gunn in the mid 80’s I believe it was Richard Glendening (English teacher) who told me Marrily had been killed in a car accident while driving out of the Bay Area to avoid the medfly spraying that Gerry Brown approved in 1980 but which didn’t take place until 1981-82 due to the protests.

I knew Marrily through school but also got to know her a little better when I hitch-hiked up to Astoria, Oregon during the summer of 67’ to visit her and her family. Her parents were just as nice as she was. One of my favorite memories from that summer is the two of us going clam-digging on the Pacific Coast in the early morning hours.

She was the youngest and one of the nicest teachers we had.

What I posted earlier was from a memory of when I returned to visit Gunn but the timeline I used to guess the approximate date of her death was based on the reference to Medfly spraying (which occured in the 80's). Marrily died on August 26, 1969. It was in a car accident, and it was because she was trying avoid exposure to some agricultural spraying that was going on in our area, just not the 1980 Medfly spraying. She was 26 years old.

Thanks for that update, Leslie.  I have corrected the website to indicate that year.
