I think of Mr. Ida to this day everytime I have to parallel park or make a left hand turn crossing over oncoming traffic. I still remember everything he taught me about driving. A very nice man and a good teacher.

I was impressed by Pete Ida's stories about discrimination of the Japanese he experienced in housing in the 1950s and 60s.  I don't recall the specifics, but it made a lasting impression.

To this day, I slow down when driving on Alma Street because he declared that one of us from Gunn would die on that road because it was such a dangerous road.  I felt cared!  For his stories and humanity, Pete was a great teacher.

Mr. Ida gave me the courage to speed up on the on-ramp to a freeway, and to ALWAYS check my rear-view mirror AND turn my head to be sure there wasn't a blind spot.  His voice is in my head to this day.  Why or why did they take Drivers Ed out of schools!  Bless you, Mr. Ida.  You saved lives.
